Happy June!
Monday for Pday we went to Barnegat Lighthouse. It's in our area but it takes an hour to get there from our apartment because it's so far south and it's on an island off the mainland. But it was worth the drive! It was built in the 1850's and hasn't been in operation since the 1940's. We got to go up inside the lighthouse (which involved 250 steps of a steep winding staircase) and take pictures and the view was incredible! It was so windy!
Tuesday was transfers! But Hermana Bloxham and I didn't go to transfer conference because we are staying together for 6 more weeks since I'm training her. It's crazy how fast time is going. Now I only have 5 more transfers left before I go home.
My mission recently got missionaries assigned to teach in Haitian Creole. So that brings the number of languages in the mission to five- English, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Creole. New Jersey is so cool!
So I don't know if I've mentioned this, but our branch president is white. He is American but he served a Spanish-speaking mission and is still fluent in Spanish so he was called to serve this little Spanish branch. This week his daughter got back from her mission to Mexico and she was able to come on a team up with us just two days after getting home. It was so cool to watch her teaching and how fluently she could speak Spanish... here in the states it's a bit harder because we're not completely immersed in Spanish.
Wednesday we had an amazing lesson with Eddie. We watched Elder Holland's talk called "Safety for the Soul" from October 2009. It's definitely one of my all-time favorites. He speaks so powerfully about how the Book of Mormon is true and what it means for us. After we watched the talk we asked Eddie what he got out of it and he said "The LDS church is the only true path?" and we said "YES!" and we were so excited that Elder Holland had gotten through to him in a way that we've been trying to for several weeks with no success. Then he asked me what I got out of it and I was like "Don't even get me started on what this talk and the Book of Mormon mean to me" and then I proceeded to testify like I've never testified before. Then Hermana Bloxham came in with her testimony and the Spirit was so strong. When we left the lesson Hermana Bloxham and I were so excited and felt like we were walking on air! It was amazing! Eddie is a very stubborn kid but I think we are finally getting through to him!
Saturday was a great day. We spent some time in the evening contacting in downtown Lakewood because now that it is summertime and the sun sets later, there are a lot of people outside around 8pm. We contacted a lot of solid people and gave out a lot of Book of Mormons. We gave a Book of Mormon to this Costa Rican guy named Nelson, got his information, and got an appointment with him. Then we went and talked to another family for a while. When we were walking back to our car, we walked past Nelson and we saw him just sitting there reading the Book of Mormon we gave him :) Hermana Bloxham was super sneaky and was able to get this picture. It's a little blurry but we love it!
Have I mentioned how much I love the Book of Mormon? In the words of President Monson, "If you haven't read the Book of Mormon... read it!!!" That's my invitation to all who read this :)
